OVERVIEW

Information that must be shared following entry into force of the Protocol includes changes of Competent National Authorities functions or contact details, laws and regulations, decisions on LMOs, risk assessment reports, any other decision, declaration, notification or report relevant to the Protocol, appointment and contact details of biosafety experts, capacity-building needs and priorities and capacity-building activities.

 

The Protocol relies heavily on the sharing of appropriate and timely information for its effective operation and implementation. The BCH is the Protocol’s primary information-sharing system and an essential tool for implementation; therefore many of the initial tasks that must be taken after entry into force are related to making information available to the BCH. Because the BCH plays such an important role in the in the operation of the Protocol for all Parties, it is essential to make any relevant information available and accessible as soon as possible.
